ASHLAND – Plastic duck decoys, people and prayers filled the room at the 41st Ashland Community Prayer Breakfast on Thursday morning.

The breakfast was sold out this year at Ashland University's John C. Myers Convocation Center. The host was the Ashland County Ministerial Association.

The theme was "Exalt the Lord Who Has Established Us," with keynote speaker Alan Robertson of the hit reality show "Duck Dynasty."

Robertson, the eldest son of Phil Robertson, was originally suppose to speak in 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic his appearance was pushed back.

"I never had three years to prepare to speak," Alan Robertson said.

Robertson told the audience how his father graduated from Louisiana Tech University and played alongside Terry Bradshaw.

"They found success in America in completely two different ways," Robertson said.

His father became the university's 2014 alumni of the year, known as a duck hunting icon, a TV personality and servant of Christ.

With faith, Robertson's family stayed together during difficult times and while on the brink of divorce. Once the Robertsons found God they started commercial fishing at the Ouachita River, he said.

"God was building a base for us to trust in him," the 'Duck Dynasty' figure said. "We built a business because of God and were able to impact a lot of people."

Robertson discussed his father's book "Uncanceled: Finding Meaning and Peace in a Culture of Accusations, Shame, and Condemnation," and said "we have been uncanceled because of Jesus Christ on the cross … no matter what happens we're 'uncancelable.'"

Afterward, Robertson briefly touched on the leaked draft majority opinion of abolishing Roe v. Wade, saying "the curse will be removed from this country."

The "Duck Dynasty" personality ended his speech by praying for Ashland and leaders.

Praying nationally and locally

Several leaders from county churches gathered to pray to local law enforcement, veterans, statewide and local elected officials and educators.

Melanie Miller, a member of the Ashland County Ministerial Association and executive director of the Ashland Pregnancy Care Center, asked folks to specifically pray for those working in social service agencies. She also asked for protection of the medical community, noting "many are tired, especially after these few last years."
