LESLEY MARIN: Well, if you are looking to get your COVID vaccine, you may be able to get one at Cal State LA. Health officials say there are still slots available, and the site will start taking walk-ups. To fill them. CBS News' Tina Patel is live in East LA with the details. Good morning, Tina.

TINA PATEL: Good morning, Lesley. Over the last few days, the supply has exceeded demand here at the Cal State LA site, and the federal authorities who are currently running the site don't want that to continue.

So take a look. They are encouraging people who are eligible for an appointment to sign up here. That's people over the age of 50, those with underlying conditions, and essential workers. They can book through the My Turn website.

But if some appointment slots go unfilled, vaccines will then be given to people in the walk-up line here. It is the Johnson & Johnson shot, so only people 18 and older will be allowed, and it will all depend on vaccine availability. But people can come here to the walk-up line and take their chance.

Dr. Barbara Ferrer says, even though COVID cases are going down here, it's important to vaccinate as many people as possible, because we do not live in a bubble, and there are surges in other parts of the country and world.

BARBARA FERRER: In terms of noting that cases are going up elsewhere, I feel like I've been saying that for the last two weeks. We have to pay a lot of attention to what happens elsewhere.

TINA PATEL: It does appear that the highly contagious UK variant is now the dominant strain in the country, and LA County has now seen its first case of the Brazilian variant that has already been found in San Bernardino and San Diego County.

Now, back out here live, FEMA is only running this vaccination site for the next four days. So the chance to have a walk-up appointment is only good from now until Sunday. We don't know what will happen when the city takes over operation of this site next week. We'll send it back to you.

- All right. Make the best of four days. Tina, thank you very much.
