DUI checkpoints tonight 2023: Locations set for Jersey Shore this weekend

The Monmouth County DWI Task Force points out that while Labor Day weekend may have been the unofficial end of summer, its work continues.

Drunken driving checkpoints will be set up in Howell and Avon this weekend, starting tonight, announced Allenhurst Police Chief Michael Schneider, the task force coordinator.

The first checkpoint will be from 11 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday on Route 9 in Howell. All vehicles on Route 9 North will be diverted into the Regal Plaza.

The second checkpoint will be from 9 p.m. Saturday to 1 a.m. Sunday in Avon. This checkpoint will involve stopping vehicles traveling on Route 71 (Main Street).

Task force members and local police officers will be on the lookout for any impaired drivers, Schneider said.

The emphasis remains on three goals: education, deterrence and enforcement, he said.
