WEST PALM BEACH — A 19-year-old man was killed early Saturday when he lost control of his car near Palm Beach International Airport and crashed into a power pole, police said.

Luis Manuel Lopez of West Palm Beach was driving west in the 2100 block of Belvedere Road west of Australian Avenue just after 4 a.m. when he struck the center median with his 2020 Toyota Corolla and then hit a guardrail in the next median, Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office reports said.

Lopez's car re-entered the westbound lanes of Belvedere Road with two flat driver's-side tires, then struck the northside curb before leaving the road and crashing into a concrete electric pole, deputies said.

Lopez, whom deputies said was driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, was taken to St. Mary's Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.
