Duke Dunn will be returning to the Marysville City Council once his term as a county commissioner expires next month.

The city council voted by secret ballot between Dunn and Karynn Carrell to fill the remaining two years left in the seat vacated by now Mayor Kathy Hayman.

Dunn was present at the meeting and told council he moved to the city in 1997 and had more to give to the city. He was first elected to the council in 2001.

He resigned as mayor pro-tem in 2015 when he was appointed to fill a vacant 4th District seat on the county board. Dunn lost his re-election bid in the August primary.

Hayman's seat became vacant when she beat out incumbent Wayne Pyden for mayor in November.

Dunn will be sworn into council during the city's Jan. 9 meeting.
