Duke, Kentucky, Indiana, Mizzou emerge as featured games on KU Jayhawks hoops schedule

Home games against Indiana, Seton Hall and Harvard, road contests versus Kentucky and Missouri, a neutral site battle against Duke and trip to the Bahamas for the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament will highlight Kansas’ 2022-23 men’s basketball nonconference schedule, which was announced Tuesday.

The defending national champion Jayhawks will meet Duke in the Champions Classic on Nov. 15 in Indianapolis. The Classic will not signal the start of the college basketball season this year.

KU will play an exhibition game against Pittsburg State on Nov. 2 at Allen Fieldhouse, then home games against Omaha on Nov. 7 and North Dakota State on Nov. 10 prior to the Duke game.

After a home game against Southern Utah on Nov. 18, the Jayhawks will compete in the Battle 4 Atlantis on Nov. 23-25 in Paradise Island, Bahamas. The field consists of KU, Butler, BYU, Dayton, North Carolina State, USC, Tennessee and Wisconsin with matchups yet to be announced.

A home game against Texas Southern on Nov. 28 will be followed by a home game versus Seton Hall on Dec. 1, followed by the Border War match against Missouri on Dec. 10 in Columbia. After that, KU returns home to meet Indiana on Dec. 17 and Harvard on Dec. 22.

KU will travel to Kentucky on Jan. 28.

The 2022-23 Big 12 Conference schedule will begin Dec. 31. The league has yet to release its schedule.

The Big 12 Tournament will be held in T-Mobile Center on March 8-11, 2023. T-Mobile Center also will play host to NCAA Tournament Midwest Regional semifinal and final games on March 24 and 26. However, KU will not play a regular season game in the building this season. KU has played a regular-season game in KC every year since 1997-98 with the exception of the COVID-19-affected season of 2020-21.

Games against Missouri during the 2025-26 and 26-27 seasons will be held in T-Mobile Center.

Dan Beckler, KU senior associate athletic director strategic communications and external initiatives explained the absence of a regular season game in T-Mobile Center this upcoming season.

“We are taking a one-year hiatus from playing a regular season basketball game at the T-Mobile Center during the 2022-23 season, but will return to Kansas City the following season,” Beckler said in a statement. “Our goal is to increase the quality of the opponent in future years to bring a compelling matchup on an annual basis to our fans in the greater Kansas City area. We have a great partnership with the T-Mobile Center and look forward to playing there during the Big 12 championship next March.”

Of KU’s nonconference schedule, KU coach Bill Self said: “Once again we have a nonconference schedule that should prepare us for what will be another strong Big 12 schedule. This is a very attractive home schedule with games against Indiana and Seton Hall. Also mixed in is Duke in the Champions Classic in Indianapolis and road games at Missouri and at Kentucky. The Battle 4 Atlantis is a stacked field that includes USC, Tennessee and Wisconsin. Those, along with the Big 12, makes this a very competitive schedule and if we do well, it will enhance our chances for another high NCAA Tournament seed.”
