Duke transfer Shayeann Day-Wilson had her best outing in a University of Miami uniform so far with a perfect shooting day as the Hurricanes routed Eastern Tennessee State University 68-44 to win the Miami Thanksgiving Tournament Sunday afternoon.

Day-Wilson came off the bench and went 7-for-7 from the field, 5-for-5 from deep, for 19 points, tying Shenise Johnson and Kelsey Marshall for the third-best shooting performance from beyond the arc in Miami single-game history. The Canadian junior guard also had three assists.

UM improved to 5-0, the third time under coach Katie Meier that the team wins its first five games.

Day-Wilson was a big get for Meier in the transfer portal. She was the top Canadian guard in the class of 2021 and was named All-ACC Freshman of the Year in 2021-22 at Duke. She averaged 8.1 points and 2.9 rebounds as a sophomore before leaving for Miami.

All 10 Hurricanes scored Sunday as the team shot 57.5 percent from the field and 56 percent from three-point range. Ja’Leah Williams had nine points. Lazaria Spearman added five points and seven rebounds.

Miami took control of the game early and led by 13 points at halftime. The Hurricanes outscored ETSU 16-6 in the third quarter and cruised to victory.

Nevaeh Brown led ETSU (4-2) with nine points and Kendall Folley had eight points and four assists.

Miami hits the road for the first time this season with a Wednesday night game at 25th-ranked Mississippi State (7-0).
