GREENVILLE, S.C. -- A.J. Griffin lay on the floor of the Bon Secours Wellness Arena clutching his left leg with 8:24 left in the second half of Duke's second-round NCAA Tournament game against Michigan State.

The Duke freshman stayed on the ground for a few minutes and was eventually helped off the court by two teammates. He did not return to the game as the Blue Devils led only by two points.

Duke, the No. 2 seed in the West Region, held on for an 85-76 victory to move into the Sweet 16.

Duke officials told the USA TODAY Network postgame that Griffin did not go back to the locker room for treatment during the game and the hope is that the injury is "only a stinger."

It was added that an injury update on Griffin could be available as early as tonight.

Griffin has dealt with two previous knee injuries: spraining his left knee in high school and his right knee before the start of this season.

He had seven points on 3-of-7 shooting with three rebounds against Michigan State.
