Duluth officer saves choking child with Heimlich maneuver in middle of highway

A metro Atlanta officer is being praised for jumping into action and saving a child’s life.

On Monday, while Ofc. Andrew Bray was on his way to work on State Route 316, he noticed something out of the ordinary.

According to Duluth Police, Bray noticed a woman conducting the Heimlich maneuver on a child in the midst of heavy traffic.

Bray reportedly sprung into action, getting out of his car and rushing to help the young girl.

Officials said despite the woman’s numerous tries, she was unsuccessful. With Bray’s quick thinking and courageous actions, he was able to remove a piece of candy from the young girl’s airway.

On Wednesday, the woman and young girl were reunited with Bray.

Jeremy Engelberg thanked the officer for saving his daughter’s life on Facebook writing, ”It was an honor to meet Officer Bray, Chief Carruth, and many other incredible members of the Duluth Police Department. So many little moments occurred throughout the day that resulted in our daughter and Officer Bray crossing paths in a time of her greatest need. Now two lives are forever intertwined. Thank you for saving our daughter’s life. You are forever a hero.”

The woman and child’s names were not released.
