A Dumas student was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon after a threat was reportedly made toward another student.

According to the Dumas Independent School District, at about 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 22, Dumas ISD "was made aware of a terroristic threat made by a Dumas High School student towards another Dumas High School student. The student responsible has been apprehended and is now in the custody of the local law enforcement agency."

The school district extended its gratitude to both the Dumas City Police Department and the DISD Police Department for their swift and coordinated response.

"DISD remains dedicated to fostering a safe and secure educational environment. Parents are encouraged to engage in conversations with their children about reporting any concerning activities to school district administrators or staff," the school district noted in an update posted on Facebook.

No further information was available, but Dumas ISD said "Please rest assured that DISD takes all threats seriously and will act quickly and responsively to address concerns."
