Duncan Swim finishes second on Senior Night

Nov. 21—After several straight road swim meets, the Duncan swim teams returned home to celebrate their 11 seniors and finished up second overall on the girls' and boys' competition this past Thursday.

Since their first meet of the season, Duncan has been on the road, but they've still taken home several second place finishes along with the boys winning the Wichita Falls meet this past Saturday.

Upon their return home for the second meet at The Simmons Center, the Demons placed second with 6A Deer Creek winning the meet with the boys keeping it close only losing by 22 points.

The meet started off strong with the girls' 200-meter medley relay team finishing fourth as the team of Briana Thomas, Stephanie Elser, Gaby Glover and Jordan Patterson finished with a time of 2:39.94.

Duncan's boys' 200-meter medley relay team finished third overall, only 16 seconds behind the first place Deer Creek team.

The team of Aiden Locke, Logan Morris, Lucas Cantero and Asa Pollock finished with a time of 2:17.50 heading into the first set of individual events.

Patterson had the best finish in the 200-meter freestyle on her senior night by finishing sixth overall with a time of 3:02.78, while Aspen Condit and Anna Hutto rounded out the top 10 of that race.

Locke finished third overall in the 200-meter freestyle to have the best individual race of the first part of the meet finishing with a time of 2:32.06 with the next top finish coming from Pollock.

Pollock, in the 200-meter individual medley, finished third overall with a time of 3:08.88 with one of the seniors in Glover nearly coming away with the first victory of the night.

Glover, in the 50-meter freestyle, went neck-and-neck with Jillian Hull from Deer Creek, however Hull finished .37 ahead of her to take the win with Glover finishing second in the event.

Racing with a time of 30.93 seconds, Glover was the only Duncan racer in that heat. The final event came next before honoring the seniors.

Duncan had three racers finish back-to-back-to-back in the 50-meter freestyle as Cantero, Xavier Mikes and Garret Sneed finished sixth, seventh and eighth respectively to finish the first part of the meet.

Honoring the 11 seniors included Coach Nolan Price and former Coach Andrew Bowers, who came to send off some his seniors he coached for three years.

The seniors honored included Katrina Arredondo, Lucas Cantero, Stephanie Elser, Trey Guernsey III, Xavier Mikes, Logan Morris, Jordan Patterson, Daly Sepulveda, Sydney Woods, Gaby Glover and Brianna Thomas.

Pollock, after a few events, found his stride and ended up winning the first event for the Demons in the 400-meter freestyle as he finished almost two seconds ahead of his teammate.

Finishing with a time of 5:50.43, Pollock placed ahead of Caleb Ramsey, who came in with a time of 5:52.22 to place second for the Demons in the race.

After finishing a few events, the Demons went into the final two relays with both the girls' team and boys' team finishing second overall in the 400-meter freestyle relay.

The team of Patterson, Elser, Condit and Glover finished with a time of 5:23.01 to take home second while the boys' team of Cantero, Ramsey, Polock and Locke finished with a time of 4:40.06 to take home second prize.

With this the final meet before the Thanksgiving break, the Duncan swim team will return to action next week with a home meet to start the month of December.

Duncan will swim at 5 p.m. Dec. 2 when they host Yukon/ Elgin and Bethany at The Simmons Center.
