Feb. 12—MANNING, N.D. — The Dunn County Commission convened on February 7, 2024, to discuss various matters crucial to the county's progress. Among the topics addressed were road development projects, updates from the Gladstone Fire Department, and plans for honoring local veterans with a Wall of Honor.

Bartlett and West Engineering commenced the meeting by detailing their projects and plans for 2024. The firm is currently ensuring that all projects meet county and state standards, including sizing box culverts and negotiating with manufacturers for pricing and delivery dates.

The Commission approved a payment of $106,729.01 to Schwartz and Midwest Erosion Control for resources utilized in Bartlett and West's projects.

Basin Electric submitted a permit application for the Roundup to Kummer Ridge overhead transmission line project, which, upon approval, is set to commence construction in the spring. A public service meeting is scheduled for February 16, 2024, in collaboration with the town of Killdeer.

The Gladstone Fire Department provided updates on their activities in 2023, including the adoption of updated bylaws and the acquisition of a new fire truck capable of transporting 4,000 gallons of water. Joe Wanner, recipient of the Stark County Excellence Award and recent inductee into the firefighters' hall of fame, was honored.

Representatives from Home on the Range presented their grant application paperwork, addressing concerns raised by the Commission regarding the education program's challenges stemming from its shorter length of stay.

The Commission unanimously approved a motion to allocate $300,000 of federal mineral royalties to support Home on the Range, with the condition that the organization provides regular updates on the program's efficacy.

Additionally, Carolyn Benz, the Veterans Service Officer, advocated for the establishment of a Wall of Honor for local veterans. The Commission endorsed the installation of a Wall of Honor in the Dunn County courthouse to enhance visibility and recognition of these esteemed individuals.
