Dunn County in mourning after death of county employee

Jul. 19—MANNING, N.D. — Dunn County officials told The Dickinson Press that a county roads employee died of drowning Tuesday, July 18, during a recreational outing at the Little Missouri Recreation Area north of Dunn Center.

The deceased man has been identified as Assistant County Roads Superintendent Del Olson, 56, who dedicated almost two decades of his life to ensuring that residents had quality roads on which to travel.

"We extend our deepest condolences to Del's family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you," Dunn County Chairman Cody Buehner said. "Del was an outstanding employee of nearly 20 years. Humble, witty, and hardworking, Del had a positive influence on everyone he met. We ask that you be sensitive to his family, friends, and co-workers as they grieve the loss of their beloved father, grandfather, son, friend, and colleague."

Buehner also made a point to thank the Dunn County Sheriff's Office, Dunn County Emergency Management, Halliday Ambulance and Fire, West Dunn Fire Department, Dickinson Rural Fire Department Dive and Rescue Team, the North Dakota Game and Fish and all other first responders who worked tirelessly to recover his body.

"This news has devastated our entire community and we will be offering grief support to Dunn County employees. Please bear with us as details solidify," Buehner said.
