Duo’s Taqueria opens in East Liberty, Duolingo’s new restaurant venture

Duolingo Inc., the makers of the popular educational and language learning software platform, is celebrating its venture into a new industry for the company: A physical restaurant location on Penn Avenue located in the same building as its East Liberty headquarters.

Duo’s Taqueria, led by Chef Marcella Ogrodnik and named after the company’s owl mascot, officially opened as a take-out window on Wednesday at 11 a.m. to serve authentic Mexico City-inspired tacos, drinks and other items. It will remain open from that time and 3 p.m. every day of the week except Mondays and Tuesdays. There are plans to offer indoor service and even a bar area with alcoholic drinks in the future, though Duo’s Taqueria can’t offer a definitive timeline on when that might happen yet.
