Duplex fire in Sun City leaves 1 dead; MCSO investigating

An early Friday fire at a duplex in Sun City left one person dead, with Maricopa County Sheriff's Office investigating.

At around 2:18 a.m., deputies responded to the area of 105th Avenue and Peoria for reports of a residential structure fire.

Upon arrival, deputies located a duplex building on fire, with one unit "engulfed in flames and the other partially on fire," Maricopa County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Sgt. Monica Bretado told The Arizona Republic.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire but found an unidentified deceased individual inside one of the condos.

According to Bretado, all other occupants made it out safely.

An investigation remained ongoing as the origin of the fire remains unknown.

No other information had been released.
