Duplin County man's life changed with $2 million lottery win
A Duplin County man's life has been changed after winning a major lottery prize this week.
James Lee of Wallace bought a $20 100X The Cash scratch-off ticket from Murphy USA on South N.C. 41 in Wallace, according to a news release from the North Carolina Education Lottery.
To his surprise, he scratched off a $2 million win.
The release said when Lee arrived at lottery headquarters Tuesday to collect his prize, he was given the option to receive the prize as an annuity of $100,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $1.2 million.
Lee chose the lump sum and after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $855,006.
Ticket sales from scratch-off games make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $2.5 million a day on average for education, the release explained.
