Durant High School Students Release Balloons in Memory of Parkland Victims

Students at Durant High School in Plant City, Florida, released 17 balloons on February 14, as part of a celebration of the lives of the 17 students and teachers who were killed at Majory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida last year.

Video posted by the Hillsborough County Public School district captures the release. Other videos posted to their account show students sharing a moment of silence in remembrance of those killed.

The commemoration was one of many planned across Florida and the United States, according to local news reports. The anniversary has garnered nationwide attention as students continue to handle the fallout from the shooting, which sparked a year of political advocacy and backlash.
