Durham cops arrest teen accused of murdering his mom and young brother in Virginia

A 17-year-old boy suspected of killing his mother and 6-year-old brother in Virginia has been arrested in Durham.

The Washington Post reported that police in Fauquier County, Va., say 17-year-old Levi Norwood killed his mom and brother, and wounded his father, on Friday before going on the run and being arrested in an undisclosed part of North Carolina Saturday.

The Durham Police Department confirmed Sunday that they made an arrest for the Virginia authorities investigating the murders, which happened in a Washington, D.C., suburb.

Durham authorities didn’t name the teen — under North Carolina law, he’s considered a juvenile — but the details they provided match details that have been previously reported regarding the Norwood murders.

The teen, a high school junior, was arrested after being stopped for shoplifting at a Target off of 15-501 between Durham and Chapel Hill, police said.

According to the Washington Post, authorities in Virginia “did not know whether Levi Norwood had any reported behavioral or health problems” or whether police had been called to the family’s home for other problems in the past.
