Dust Storm Creates Hazardous Driving Conditions in Western Kansas

Strong winds whipped up a dust storm in Western Kansas on December 15, prompting warnings from local police to stay off highways amid reduced visibility.

Warnings for high winds were issued for several cities in the state’s west, with wind gusts of up to 70 mph expected. Blowing dust reduced visibility to between one-quarter mile and one mile, according to the National Weather Service.
