Over the last few months, Dancing With the Stars fans have dealt with big changes for season 32. Apart from the competition series streaming on Disney+ and Len Goodman retiring after 17 years as a judge, news recently broke about the co-hosts switching up. Now, Tom Bergeron is sharing his thoughts on the show as a whole.
On March 17, TMZ reported that Tyra Banks is leaving Dancing With the Stars after three seasons as a host. The news stunned viewers, as her initial hire in 2020 came as ABC abruptly fired Tom and Erin Andrews. As a result, many fans commented on the former America's Funniest Home Videos host's latest Instagram post, begging him to make a grand return to the ballroom.
While celebrating St. Patrick's Day the same day Tyra's departure was announced, Tom posted a photo of a beer that he was enjoying and he took a second to respond back to a particular comment. "[We're] hoping, that with the luck o' the Irish, we will have the #BestHostEver back over-seeing his realm where he belongs!" one fan wrote.
"Thanks! It’ll be interesting to see what happens with the show," he replied. "Disney+ was hemorrhaging $$ under [former CEO Bob] Chapek and the returning Bob Iger has pledged to cut costs. Add to that viewing #'s for DWTS were never released (unlike, say, for The Mandalorian) which also doesn’t necessarily bode well. I wish them well, [though] 💃🏼🕺🏻."
Needless to say, Tom's answer inferred that he had no plans to return to Dancing With the Stars anytime soon. What's more, on March 20, Variety exclusively reported that Julianne Hough will replace Tyra and work alongside Alfonso Ribeiro as a co-host. Fans know her for holding a number of roles on the show, starting with being a professional dancer in season 4. She then left in 2009 and later returned as a judge from 2014 to 2017. This marks her first return in a full-time role since.

Julianne shared her excitement in an official statement to Variety. "It is such an honor to be rejoining Dancing with the Stars’ as co-host," it read. "The show holds such a special place in my heart from the many years and different roles I have had the privilege of being a part of."
It continued: "The incredible team that brings the ballroom to life every night has been my family for the past 17 years. I am so excited to reunite with Alfonso, Carrie Ann, Bruno, Derek, the unbelievably talented pros, and the amazing cast on the dance floor."
As for Tom's feelings about the dance series post-firing, he discussed his sudden layoff when speaking to the late Bob Saget about the subject in October 2021.
"In all candor, the show that I left was not the show that I loved," Tom explained during an episode of the podcast Bob Saget's Here for You. "So, the end of the season that turned out to be my last season [in 2019], I kind of knew. So I took everything out of my dressing room that I really wanted ... It was kind of obvious that we were kind of butting heads."
While we're sad to hear Tom won't be a familar face on the dance floor, we're excited to see what Julianne will bring to the table.
