DWU football gameday: Tigers come home looking for first win of season against Dordt

Sep. 16—MITCHELL — Dakota Wesleyan's search for its first win of the 2022 campaign continues Saturday when the Tigers welcome Dordt to town.

Here's everything to know ahead of the Tigers home opener:

When: 1 p.m. Saturday.

Where: Joe Quintal Field.

Records: DWU 0-3 (0-2 GPAC), Dordt 1-1 (1-1 GPAC).

Coaches: DWU's Ross Cimpl (57-53, 11th season), Dordt's Joel Penner (40-24, seventh season).

All-time series: Dordt leads 4-2.

Last meeting: Dordt 45, DWU 13 on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021.

Notes: After losing the first two games against DWU, Dordt has won the last four. ... Dordt averages 48 points per game against the Tigers, while DWU averages 29 against the Defenders. ... DWU's last win against the Defenders came in 2017 in Mitchell when the Tigers won 62-52.

About the Tigers: Saturday marks DWU's first home game of the season. ... DWU started 0-3 in 2020, which included a loss to Dordt at home, but avoided an 0-4 start. ... It's been over 10 years since the Tigers started 0-4. ... Jamin Arend leads the DWU offense, averaging 110.3 rushing yards per game with four touchdowns. ... The Tigers are converting on 42% of their third-down chances, which ranks in the top 30 nationally. ...
