DWU football gameday: Tigers conclude three-game road trip with powerhouse Northwestern

Sep. 9—MITCHELL — An 0-2 start to the season certainly isn't what Dakota Wesleyan drew up coming into 2022, but the Tigers will have another chance to crack the win column against Northwestern on Saturday. Here's everything to know ahead of the tilt:

When: 1 p.m. Saturday.

Where: Korver Field at De Valois Stadium, in Orange City, Iowa.

Records: DWU 0-2, Northwestern 0-1.

Coaches: DWU's Ross Cimpl (57-52, 11th season), Northwestern's Matt McCarty (54-18, seventh season).

All-time series: Northwestern leads all-time series 18-4.

Last meeting: Northwestern 50, DWU 0 on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021.

Notes: Live video for the game is available on Northwestern's website. ... DWU hasn't beaten Northwestern since 2016 when the Tigers won 44-27 in Mitchell. ... Northwestern is averaging 44.4 points over its five-game winning streak over DWU and has scored at least 50 points in the last three games.

About the Tigers: DWU's last 0-2 start was in 2020, when the Tigers started 0-3 and finished 4-5. ... Jamin Arend had 35 carries for 198 yards and three scores last week in a 34-30 loss at Jamestown. ... The Tigers were not as effective through the air last week, only throwing for 131 yards and two interceptions. ... DWU has lost by a combined 14 points through its first two games of the season. ... Saturday marks the finale of a three-game road stretch to start the season.

About the Red Raiders: Northwestern lost in its season opener to the No. 1 team in the country and defending NAIA champions Morningside by one point last week. ... Blake Fryar threw for 227 yards and two touchdowns in the game, he also had seven carries for 67 yards. ... Parker Fryar was tied for 11th in the nation in tackles last season and had 16 tackles in the season opener, the most in the country among players who had one game. ... Northwestern has won five straight home openers.
