Dynamo played the first “home” game of the tie in the Polish city of Lodz.

Now the visiting team, Dynamo missed the chance to open the score at the start of the gamein Austria when Mykola Shaparenko struck above the crossbar from 15 meters after a pass from Viktor Tsyhankov.

At the end of the first 20 minutes, the Austrian hosts had chances to score twice, but goalkeeper Heorhiy Bushchan saved the Ukrainian team both times.

All the same, Sturm managed to get a goal in the 27th minute, with their young Danish forward Rasmus Højlund receiving the ball in the Dynamo penalty area and then shooting it into the far corner of the goal.

The Austrian team came close to scoring again, but Bushchan managed to foil several of their attacks.

At the end of regular time, Dynamo almost snatched a draw, which would have seen them win on aggregate, but after a corner kick Denys Harmash slammed the ball into the crossbar with a header.

With the aggregate score now at 1-1, the teams then had to play extra time. Dynamo finally got a goal in the 97th minute: Tsyhankov passed to Kostyantyn Vivcharenko in the Sturm penalty area, from where he struck from close range, sending the ball between the legs of Sturm’s goalkeeper.

Tsyhankov then sealed the victory for Dynamo: Buyalskyi could have scored by himself, but passed to his teammate Tsyhankov on the left, who hit the ball home, making the score 1-2 on the night.

In the playoff round of the Champions League, Dynamo will play against Portuguese club Benfica, for whom Ukrainian national team striker Roman Yaremchuk plays.
