Eagle house ‘completely lost’ after blaze Wednesday draws three local fire departments

A large fire burned down a house in Eagle on Wednesday afternoon, nearly leveling the structure completely, Eagle Fire Chief Tyler Lewis said.

No one was injured in the blaze, but “the home is completely lost,” he said.

At 12:14 p.m. Wednesday, the Eagle Fire Department responded to the fire in the 1300 block of Hidden Island Place. No residents were home when the fire began, Lewis said.

The firefighters initially had an “offensive strategy,” he said, which meant they tried entering the house and suppressing the fire from within. But because it grew too large, firefighters were forced to switch to a defensive strategy, taking position from outside the large house, which Lewis estimated at 6,000-7,000 square feet.

The Boise and Meridian fire departments assisted Eagle firefighters in the response. The fire was contained in about an hour, but the cleanup continued into the evening.

The cause of the fire was still being investigated Wednesday evening, Lewis said.
