(WHTM) – The five Defensive Rookie of the Year Finalists were announced Thursday with both Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter and Pittsburgh Steeler cornerback Joey Porter Jr. earning nods.

Penn State product Porter was chosen 32nd overall in the 2023 NFL Draft by Pittsburgh and former Georgia Bulldog Carter went 9th overall to the Eagles.

Porter posted 43 tackles (32 solo) in his debut season with one interception, 10 passes defended and one stuff. Two of his solo tackles came in the Steelers’ postseason run.

Carter had 33 tackles (20 solo) with six sacks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. Carter had five stuffs for nine yards and one blocked kick. Two of Carter’s tackles came in the postseason during the Eagles loss to Tampa Bay.

The other finalists for the honor include Houston Texans defensive end Will Anderson Jr., the Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Kobie Turner and the Seattle Seahawks cornerback Devon Witherspoon.
