Eagles officially hire Nick Sirianni as new HC

The Philadelphia Eagles officially hired former Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni to be their new head coach, the team announced Sunday.

Though the reports came out earlier this week, it took a few days for both sides to agree on a deal. That part is behind them, though, and Sirianni will begin building his staff in Philly.

That part seems to be underway, and it’s had a direct impact on the Colts and their staff.

Sirianni brought with him former Colts defensive backs coach Jonathan Gannon, who will serve as the defensive coordinator under Sirianni. Gannon had interviews with the Chicago Bears and Los Angeles Chargers for their vacant defensive coordinator roles and likely would have been the favorite if Matt Eberflus goes to Houston.

Sirianni also brought over Kevin Patullo from the Colts’ staff. Patullo was the wide receivers coach for two seasons (2018-2019) and then worked in the newly-created position as the Pass Game Specialist during the 2020 season.

Replacing Sirianni on the Colts’ staff is quarterbacks coach Marcus Brady. He will be serving as the offensive coordinator under Frank Reich.

It should be expected that a few more assistants could follow Sirianni to Philly if it means an upgrade for them and their careers.

But the news is official with Sirianni taking on his first head coach job in the NFL as Frank Reich’s coaching tree planted its first seed.
