Eagleville softball reaches 1A state title game again — and other top TSSAA Spring Fling moments

Eagleville's softball team is headed to the Class 1A state championship game for the second consecutive season.

The Lady Eagles (21-8) came from behind to score two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and defeat Huntland 4-3 Friday in the winners' bracket final at StarPlex. It was their second straight win over Huntland, which had won the previous five meetings this season.

Eagleville will play Huntland again in Saturday's championship game at 2 p.m. Huntland would have to win twice to capture the title.

Freshman pitcher Addisyn Linton singled home the tying run, moved to third on an error on the play, and then scored on Bella Bain's single to give the Lady Eagles the lead for good.

Linton tossed a complete game, allowing four hits and striking out four. She also went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.

Eagleville led 2-0 heading into the top of the sixth, before Ryley Brannon's three-run double gave Huntland the lead.

Brinli Bain was 1-for-2 with two runs for Eagleville.

Huntland pitcher and Florida State commitment Ashtyn Danley allowed four hits and one earned run in taking the loss.

Riverdale baseball beats Collierville, eliminated by Farragut

Riverdale's baseball team reached the 4A tournament bracket final Friday before being eliminated in a 10-3 loss to Farragut.

The Warriors lost a 4-2 seventh-inning lead in the first game of the day before scoring the winning run in the bottom of the eighth in a 5-4 win over Collierville.

Riverdale led 4-0 before Collierville stormed back to tie it, scoring twice in the seventh. The Warriors won it in the bottom of the eighth on Caleb Jordan's RBI single.

Brantley Bamberg and Cade Hitson each homered for the Warriors in the game, William Wexler went 3-for-4 and Bradley Pippin 2-for-4. Jackson Underwood allowed two earned runs in 6⅔ innings with six strikeouts and Drew Henning earned the win with 1⅓ innings of scoreless relief.

Riverdale led the bracket final 3-0 going into the sixth, but Farragut erupted for five runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings to pull away.

Bamberg hit his second homer of the day in the loss.

Red Hawks lose late lead, eliminated

Stewarts Creek was one out away from playing in the bracket final in the 4A baseball tournament, but Powell scored twice in the bottom of the seventh and added four in the eighth for an 8-4 win, eliminating the Red Hawks.

The game started Wednesday and was suspended by rain, which also suspended all of Thursday's games.

The Red Hawks (29-9) led 3-0 entering the fifth and 4-2 going into the seventh. Powell got the first two runners on in the seventh before hitting into a double play. After a walk, Connor Bryson hit a two-run double to tie the game.

Stewarts Creek put three runners on in the bottom of the eighth but didn't score.

Gage Hoover went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs for the Red Hawks, and Ty Vondohlen was 2-for-2, Luke Dymond 2-for-4 and Keenan Saiyasak 1-for-4 with two RBIs.
