An annual tradition returns to downtown Corpus Christi and other Coastal Bend locations this weekend. The 2023 Thomas J. Henry Turkey Giveaway is Saturday, Nov. 18, at locations in Alice, San Diego, Freer and Corpus Christi.

What this is about:

Thomas J. Henry has been giving away Thanksgiving turkeys to needy families each November for nearly 30 years. The event has become a tradition in the Coastal Bend − a way to kick-off the holiday season and help bring families and friends together for a day of fun and gratitude.

"The Corpus Christi giveaway remains the largest giveaway location, with thousands ofindividuals waiting in a line that winds around Thomas J. Henry’s Starr Street office and through downtown Corpus Christi," the law firm said in a news release. "Oftentimes, the first individuals begin lining up in front of the firm’s office the night before the giveaway."

The release stated that in recent years the Corpus Christi event has "expanded to include local vendors and a free kids’ zone with Santa and Mrs. Claus, a petting zoo, clowns, free face painting, free popcorn, and more."

Where to go:

● Alice: Jim Wells County Fairgrounds, 3001 S. Johnson Street, Alice, Texas 78332 from 8 a.m. – 9 a.m.

● San Diego: San Diego City Hall, 404 S. Mier Street, from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m.

● Freer: New City Hall: 902 E. Riley St, from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.

● Corpus Christi: Thomas J. Henry Corpus Christi Office: 521 Starr Street, from 12 p.m. – 3  p.m.

A private give-away event for selected churches and organizations was scheduled for Friday.

The rules: Talking turkey

The law firm has a limit of one turkey per family. The family representative must be 18 or older.

The law firm will not deliver, and turkeys will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
