Early morning fire in Shenandoah ruled arson

Mar. 7—The fire early Tuesday in the Turkey Run section of Shenandoah has been ruled arson.

Shenandoah Fire Chief Richard Examitas reported that state police Trooper Joseph Hall, a fire marshal at the Frackville station, said the blaze started on the first floor of 301 Furnace St.

The 2:54 a.m. blaze was called in as a house fire. When firefighters got to the scene, they called for a second alarm.

"It was pretty well involved upon arrival," Examitas said of the fire, which was visible from the rear of the residence.

Both unoccupied homes, 301 and 303 Furnace St., were heavily damaged, he said.

It took an hour to put out the fire.

A damage estimate was not available.

Anyone with information is asked to call Hall at 570-874-5300 or the Schuylkill County Communications Center at 570-628-3792 and ask for Shenandoah police.

In addition to firefighters from Shenandoah, crews responded from Frackville, Mahanoy City, Ringtown, Shenandoah Heights, Butler Twp./Englewood and Girardville.

The Pottsville Rapid Intervention Team also responded.
