COCOA — A Louisiana man faces charges of attempted murder after reportedly firing dozens of rounds into a parking lot near Cocoa Village early Saturday, sending one man to the hospital, Cocoa police said.

Officers responded about 2 a.m. to the 10 block of Oleander Street after reports of a shooting, according to a Cocoa Police Department news release.

Following a "large physical fight" involving several people inside a nearby restaurant, witnesses told police a man fired approximately 30 shots into a parking lot, the release said. Some of the rounds struck a 24-year-old man, who was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No further information about the wounded man was disclosed.

Police identified the shooter as 25-year-old Bryson L. Jones of Jennings, La.

Jones fled the area in a vehicle and was later arrested in Rockledge after a foot chase with Rockledge police, officers said.

He faces felony charges of attempted second-degree murder, attempted felony murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and shooting a deadly missile into a dwelling, business or vehicle. Jones is also charged with misdemeanor counts of discharging a firearm in public and resisting an officer without violence.

Jones was being held Saturday without bail at the Brevard County Jail Complex.
