Early Super Bowl Preview: Chiefs offense vs. Eagles defense | You Pod to Win the Game

Yahoo Sports’ Charles Robinson and Frank Schwab discuss the Super Bowl LVII matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs, and debate how the Chiefs versatile offense will match up with the Eagles strong defense.

CHARLES ROBINSON: All right, so we go onto the Super Bowl, two number one seeds, it's-- the two team-- I mean, the two guys who we talked about MVP for a long time the season until Hurts got injured, missed games. I think he was pushing Patrick. It's funny because Hurts isn't going to 100% in the Super Bowl. Mahomes isn't going 100% in the Super Bowl.

We're going to basically get the best of what these two teams have. But I also think this is an opportunity for AJ Brown to have his moment. This is an opportunity for Miles Sanders. This is an opportunity for Pacheco. It's an opportunity for-- another opportunity for Travis Kelce, whatever receiver steps up.

FRANK SCHWAB: Or even Haason Reddick and Chris Jones.

CHARLES ROBINSON: Reddick and Chris Jones, yeah, absolutely.

FRANK SCHWAB: Yeah, we might have a Super Bowl MVP who's not a quarterback this time, although Mahomes probably wins it, regardless of--

CHARLES ROBINSON: Yeah.

FRANK SCHWAB: He's-- but we'll see. We'll see. But yeah, I agree.

Real quick, I just want to talk about the point spread because it was really interesting to me that the Chiefs opened up as 1 and 1/2 point favorites at BetMGM. And within literally three minutes, it had moved to Eagles minus 1 and 1/2 and then Eagles minus 2 and 1/2, so 4 points. That's--

CHARLES ROBINSON: Why?

FRANK SCHWAB: All the people pouring--

CHARLES ROBINSON: How?

FRANK SCHWAB: --early money in on the Eagles. I saw something where 90-some-percent of the five-figure wagers so far have been on the Eagles. I think it evens up as we get closer to-- the Chiefs are a very public team because of Mahomes. And people are going to be like, wow, I can get points with Patrick Mahomes, I'm going to take that.

I think it evens up, and the spread gets a little shorter. But I was interested to see just how much of all of the early bettors, who are generally pretty in-tune with what they're doing-- these aren't casual people, right, after the Super Bowl. These are people who take it seriously.

All the money's coming in on the Eagles right away. You take anything out of that? I mean, are you the same way? You thinking-- this doesn't seem to me like, yes, it's absolutely the Eagles on the right side here.

CHARLES ROBINSON: I was stunned that it moved like that.

FRANK SCHWAB: The one thing that kind of interests me about the match up here is that, if you're going to beat the Eagles, I think it's by running the ball. And the Chiefs flat out can't do it right now. I don't know if that comes to life a little bit.

But if you just-- look, Mahomes is a-- he's great. He is one of the most-- maybe the most talented quarterback I've ever seen. But if you're just asking him, in a one-dimensional offense, on a bad ankle still, to just drop back 45 times against that pass rush, I don't know how well that ends up, I really don't.

This is a-- it just seems like a bad matchup for the Kansas City offense based on what they do well and what they don't do well against that Eagles' defense. It's just-- again, 70 sacks. They had-- I think they had 15 more sacks than every other team in the league. They can get after you.

CHARLES ROBINSON: Yeah, I will say this, though. I-- they can-- Kelce could beat the [BLEEP] out of their lineback-- I mean, look, no offense to the Eagles' linebackers. But I'm telling you right now-- and to me, I still believe that they're going to say that it's not accurate. I still believe Kelce is Mahomes' first read. Whether he's his first read or not, I think Mahomes knows whether or not this guy is going to be open.

I think he steps to the line. He knows the matchups and instantly knows, am I going to be able to go to him or not. And if he doesn't, he has a way of making sure. He knows whether-- where's Kelce going. Let me look and see how the coverage is adjusting to him. And if he's going to--

I do think that's going to be a huge matchup in the favor of the Kansas City Chiefs. I-- yeah, I mean, running it, if that's what they've got to do to win a game--

FRANK SCHWAB: I don't know that it can. I don't know if they can do it.

CHARLES ROBINSON: Pacheco-- listen, Pacheco has had moments, OK?

FRANK SCHWAB: He's OK, yeah.

CHARLES ROBINSON: No, I mean, he's had moments, OK?

FRANK SCHWAB: Sure, sure.

CHARLES ROBINSON: I don't-- I can't-- I think he's got the talent that, in a one-game situation like this-- I don't know the consistency over the course of a season, whether he can be a 1,000-yard rush or whatever. But I mean, in a one-game situation, could he gouge teams? Yeah, I think absolutely he could.

And I still think that that's something I would want to have in my pocket because, look, they can rush the passer. There's no-- I mean, there's-- it's a brutal front. Philly's front is brutal. And if Mahomes isn't going to be-- I don't know, man. Mahomes looked a lot better now.

FRANK SCHWAB: And you give him two weeks too, right?

CHARLES ROBINSON: Two weeks, yeah.

FRANK SCHWAB: Yeah, yeah, right, I know.

CHARLES ROBINSON: [LAUGHS] Like two weeks, it could be like a "Rocky" montage. He's running on the beach. I have no idea.

FRANK SCHWAB: Hugging Creed in the water, yeah.

CHARLES ROBINSON: Yeah, exactly, yeah. I have no clue. Him and Kelce jumping around, hugging each other in a "Rocky" montage. I mean, it could absolutely be what he looks like in two weeks. So but yeah, it's a good thing to have in your pocket.

And it-- I will say this. When McCaffrey scored that touchdown against the Eagles, you could tell. I mean, the crowd, it got them a little nervous because you're like, oh, god, wait a minute. Let's not get this-- I think if Elijah Mitchell had been healthy for this game and he plays, maybe it's a different situation in terms of volume of run and different things that they were doing. But I don't know. It'll be the Andy bowl though. That'll be fun, the Andy Reid bowl.

FRANK SCHWAB: It will be fun.
