Early voters wait in long lines in New York City

Outside Madison Square Garden, many voters like Brianne Demler and David Bruce were excited to cast their ballots while others felt it was more secure than mail-in voting. Demler called it "probably the most important election of my life," while Bruce said he "really wanted to do it in-person."

New York said last week that it would deploy additional police officers in case of any problems at polling locations or throughout the city.

More than 50 million Americans have cast ballots in the U.S. presidential election with 10 days to go in the campaign, a pace that could lead to the highest voter turnout in over a century, according to data from the U.S. Elections Project.
