Early voting begins at a crawl
Apr. 7—Early voting in the May municipal election in Boone County began at a snail's pace this week.
Only 20 people had voted by late Thursday, the second day of in-person voting, poll workers said.
Boone County Clerk Lisa Bruder said the pace is about right for a municipal election primary and that the pace should pick up closer to election day, May 2.
In Lebanon, Boone County Councilman Kevin Van Horn is running for mayor against incumbent Mayor Matthew Gentry, who is seeking a third term. Van Horn, who just began a new term on the council in January, would have to vacate it next January if he wins the mayoral race.
In Zionsville, retired news anchor John Stehr and businesswoman Jane Burgess each seek the Zionsville mayor's seat. Mayor Emily Styron, the town's first Democrat mayor, announced she will not seek re-election after her first term.
Boone County Councilman Aaron Williams had declared candidacy for an at-large seat on the Zionsville Town Council but has since withdrawn his name from the ballot, as have several others, since the full slate of candidates was announced in early February.
Lebanon and Zionsville each has two available at-large seats and plenty of candidates.
