Early voting comes to a close today

Nov. 3—VALDOSTA — Early voting for surrounding municipal elections is coming to an end Friday evening.

Lowndes County Elections Supervisor Deb Cox said the turnout is right on par with previous municipal election contests.

About 833 individuals cast their vote between Monday, Oct. 30, and Thursday, Nov. 2, according to the office's daily recap record.

Cox explained the office surpassed the 6% turnout rate from the previous advanced voting week and hopes to hit almost 7% on Friday.

The recorded participation shows a slight uptick in turnout records for the Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2023, election. This week alone the office has received 27 absentee ballots by mail, the document showed early Friday morning.

Shared documents showed about 1,056 individuals cast their vote within the first week of advanced voting starting from Monday, Oct. 16, to Sunday, Oct. 22. The largest voting day within the week was Wednesday, Oct. 18, with approximately 199 votes and one provisional ballot.

The second week totaled slightly lower than the first: Only 994 votes were made, the documents said.

Cox and employees at Lowndes County Elections are urging voters to cast their votes as early voting approaches its end. The office is scheduled to close for its final day of early voting on Friday, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m. Lowndes County Elections is located at 2808 North Oak Street in Valdosta.

She emphasized that only city residents are able to vote in the Nov. 7 election due to the county not having any active contests. Elections are being held for the cities of Dasher, Remerton, Hahira and Valdosta.

The City of Hahira is also holding a special election regarding a referendum ballot for Sunday sales of distilled spirits and other alcoholic beverages.

The general election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 7. Voters must report to their assigned precinct between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. To find your assigned precinct, please go to: https://mvp.sos.ga.gov, refer to your precinct card, or contact the Elections office.
