Ohio is the center of the political world today as voters decide on contentious races for U.S. Senate and governor.

The U.S. Senate primary election has already set a record $66 million in spending for the state as seven Republican candidates and three Democratic candidates compete to replace retiring Sen. Rob Portman.

Former President Donald Trump shook up the race when he endorsed J.D. Vance in the GOP primary. But former state treasurer Josh Mandel, a leading candidate before the endorsement, is not backing down, and state Sen. Matt Dolan is riding a last-minute surge in the polls. The other Republicans running are investment banker Mike Gibbons, former Ohio Republican Party chair Jane Timken, and businessmen Mark Pukita and Neil Patel.

Gov. Mike DeWine is running against Republican challengers former congressman Jim Renacci, farmer and businessman Joe Blystone and former state Rep. Ron Hood in the GOP primary. The Democratic race is between former Cincinnati mayor John Cranley and former Dayton mayor Nan Whaley.

Ohio House, Ohio Senate, and State Central Committee races will not appear on today's primary ballots because the Ohio Supreme Court's rejected maps as unconstitutional. A primary for those races hasn't been set but will likely occur in early August.

Congressional races, however, are on today's ballot even though the districts face a legal challenge.
