Absentee by-mail voting in Indiana

Registered voters who have a specific and reasonable excuse — such as disability or transportation issues — can apply for an absentee vote by mail ballot.

The deadline to request an absentee ballot is Oct. 27 by 11:59 p.m., 12 days before the general election.

A list of reasons you may be eligible for absentee vote by mail is available here: https://bit.ly/3rNxIfw

You must return your absentee ballot by mail or in-person to county election officials by Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. The county must receive your ballot by 6 p.m. on Election Day, or it will not be processed, even if it is postmarked before this deadline.

Expanded absentee ballot access for voters with print disabilities

In September, a federal judge expanded eligibility for voters with print disabilities, which includes those who are blind, have low vision or a physical disability that limits hand dexterity and cannot physically mark a ballot without assistance.

Voters with print disabilities can now select someone to assist in marking their paper absentee ballot, whereas before they could only vote if they made an appointment with a traveling board.
