Early voting for municipal primary: What you need to know in Indianapolis metro area

Early voting for the municipal primary started Tuesday and continues through May 1.

Any Hoosier who is registered to vote and has a valid photo ID on-hand is eligible to early vote. Photo ID must be issued by Indiana or the U.S. government.

Mail-in ballots

Some voters are eligible to apply for a mail-in absentee ballot if they meet excuse requirements. A list of reasons you may be eligible for absentee vote by mail is available on the Secretary of State's website.

To receive an absentee ballot for the primary election, an application must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. April 20. For an absentee ballot to be counted, it must be delivered to your county's local election office by 6 p.m. on Election Day.

Marion County voters can mail or hand-deliver it to the Marion County Election Board office at 200 E. Washington St. or the Election Service Center at 3737 E. Washington St. It can also be given to any polling location through early voting or Election Day.

Marion County

The Indianapolis City-County Building, located at 200 E. Washington St, is the only available polling center open for early voting until April 22. Hours can be found on the county website.

Eight more early voting sites will be open from April 22 to April 30. Hours can be found on Vote.indy.gov:

These locations and dozens more will be open on Election Day May 2. Voters can choose any location, but find the closest voting center at https://vote.indy.gov/.

Hamilton County

Early voting at the Hamilton County Government & Judicial Center in downtown Noblesville and the Hamilton County Fairgrounds Annex Building, 2003 Pleasant St. will continue through May 1.

Early voting is also available April 19-29 in Westfield, Fishers and Carmel.

  • Westfield City Hall, 130 Penn St.

  • Cool Creek Nature Center, 2000-1 E. 151st St.

  • Roy G. Holland Memorial Park Building, 1 Park Drive

  • Billericay Park Building, 12690 Promise Road

  • Wilfong Pavilion at Founders Park Building A, 11675 Hazel Dell Pkwy.

  • Jill Perelman Pavilion, 3000 W. 116th St.

Voters can find an open polling location Monday through Saturday, and hours for each location can be found on the county website. Anyone in the county can vote at any of the early voting locations.

Hendricks County

The Government Center, at 355 S. Washington St., Danville, will be open for early voting through May 1. Voters can cast their vote Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays April 22 and 29. The center closes at noon May 1.

The following locations are available Wednesdays through Saturdays, starting April 19:

  • Guilford Township Community Center, 1500 S. Center St., Plainfield

  • Radiant Bible Church, 420 Gable Crossing Drive, Avon

  • Brownsburg Public Library, 450 S. Jefferson St., Brownsburg

Johnson County

Starting April 17, the Johnson County Courthouse, 5 E. Jefferson St., is open for early voting during the week from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. They will only be open till noon May 1.

Four other locations are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 26-28 and on two Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 22 and 29. Those locations are:

  • White River Public Library, 1664 Library Blvd., Greenwood

  • Greenwood Public Library, 310 S. Meridian St., Greenwood

  • Trafalgar Public Library, 424 S. Tower St., Trafalgar

  • John R. Drybread Community Center, 100 E. Main Cross St., Edinburgh

Three local retirement communities will also have early voting for residents.

Boone County

Voters in Boone County can early vote from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Courthouse, 310 Courthouse Square, Lebanon. Early voting is open through April 27.

A few early voting locations are open from 1 to 8 p.m. April 28 and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 29:

  • Zionsville Hussey-Mayfield Library, 250 N. Fifth St.

  • Grace Baptist Church, 3001 Elm Swamp Road, Lebanon

  • Zionsville Town Hall, 1100 W. Oak St.

  • Whitestown Municipal Building, 6210 Veterans Drive

Hancock County

The County Courthouse, 9 E. Main St., Greenfield, will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays. They will close at noon May 1. Voters should enter the North entrance.

Starting April 17, three more locations are available on weekdays and Saturdays. Those centers are:

  • Hancock County Public Library, Greenfield: 900 W. McKenzie Road

  • Buck Creek Fire Department, 5809 W. Airport Blvd.

  • Mt. Vernon School Admin Building, 1806 W. SR 234, Fortville
