Early voting for North Jersey primary election starts Friday. Here's where you can vote
Early voting for Tuesday's Primary Election begins Friday and will continue throughout the weekend.
Early in-person voting is new to the state and first took place in the 2021 November General Election.
New Jersey voting early
New Jersey is one of 46 states plus the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands offer early in-person voting. The Garden State also became the 25th state to offer in-person early voting on weekends, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.
What are the early voting hours?
Early Voting polls will open Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be no early voting on Monday, and all regular polling places across the state will be open Tuesday for the primary.
Is NJ's early voting catching on?
In Bergen County, there are more than 668,000 registered voters. Since 2021, about 40,000 people have participated in early voting, the Bergen County Superintendent of Elections/Commissioner of Registration Debra Francica said.
In 2021 across the state, 207,863 voters cast a ballot in person early in the general election. That's 3.2% of the state's 6.5 million registered voters, but it was 8% of the 2.6 million total voters who turned out in that election. Officials said the numbers are growing and are about five years out from gaining the momentum that other states have seen.
