Early voting in Oneida County, requesting absentee ballot: What you need to know

Election Day is approaching on Nov. 8. and early voting in Oneida County is available from Oct. 29 through Nov. 6.

Any Oneida County resident who is registered to vote can cast their ballot during the early voting period.

On Election Day, people can vote at their designated polling site from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. To find your site, visit ocgovboe.net/election-information/polling-sites or go to voterlookup.elections.ny.gov.

Where can I vote early?

Oneida County residents can vote at any of these four early voting locations:

All early voting sites are accessible to voters with disabilities.

Early voting works as any other election: When arriving at the early voting site, you will check in to vote, receive your ballot and vote. People can ask an election inspector to explain how to vote or if any other assistance is needed.

If you vote during the early voting period, you are not eligible to vote on Election Day.

When is early voting available?

  • Saturday, Oct 29: From 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

  • Sunday, Oct. 30: From 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

  • Monday, Oct. 31: From 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

  • Tuesday, Nov. 1: From 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. (New Hartford ONLY: 10 a.m. - 8 p.m.)

  • Wednesday, Nov. 2: From 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

  • Thursday, Nov. 3: From 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. (New Hartford ONLY: 10 a.m. - 8 p.m.)

  • Friday, Nov. 4: From 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

  • Saturday, Nov. 5: From 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

  • Sunday, Nov. 6: From 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

What seats are up for election?

There are several offices up for election that will appear on the ballot:

Residents can also vote Yes or No on the ballot Proposal 1 (Clean Water, Clean Air, and Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act of 2022):

"To address and combat the impact of climate change and damage to the environment, the 'Clean Water, Clean Air, and Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act of 2022' authorizes the sale of state bonds up to four billion two hundred million dollars to fund environmental protection, natural restoration, resiliency, and clean energy projects. Shall the Environmental Bond Act of 2022 be approved?"

Can I still request an absentee ballot?

Yes, if you will be absent from your county or you can't vote in person on Election Day due to an illness or disability, you can still request an absentee ballot.

  • In person: Printing an absentee ballot form and delivering it to the Oneida County Board of Elections in Utica no later than Nov. 7 (the day before the election).

  • Online at absenteeballot.elections.ny.gov

  • By phone: Calling the Oneida County Board of Elections at 315-798-5765.

  • By mail: Downloading an absentee ballot request form in English or Spanish and sending it to the Oneida County Board of Elections at Union Station, 321 Main St. 3rd Floor, Utica, NY 13501. The board of elections has to receive the application by Oct. 24 (15 days before Election Day).

How can I vote absentee?

Once the application is submitted, the ballot can be delivered in person to the board of elections no later than 9 p.m. on Election Day, or it has to be postmarked by a governmental postal service no later than the day of the election and received no later than seven days after the election.
