Early voting underway for Dec. 11 ballot in Rapides Parish

In Saturday elections in Rapides Parish, Danny Bordelon was elected to the District E seat on the Rapides Parish Police Jury. A parish-wide tax renewal for the Renaissance Home for Youth failed resoundingly.

Early voting is underway in Rapides Parish, and voters are looking at one runoff race and tax propositions or renewals.

Early voting runs through Dec. 4 — with the exception of Sunday — from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The deadline to request an absentee ballot is 4:30 p.m. Dec. 7, according to the Louisiana Secretary of State's office. The deadline for absentee ballots from everyone but military and overseas voters to be received is 4:30 p.m. Dec. 10.

Voters in Alexandria's District 4 will decide whether Catherine Davidson continues on the City Council or if Elizabeth "Lizzie" Felter will take the seat.

There are 11 tax propositions and/or renewals to be considered.

Those are:

  • Rapides Parish Police Jury Road District, No. 1B: 15-mill renewal for 10 years.

  • Rapides Police Jury Road District, No. 2B (Ward 11): 1% sales/use tax beginning Jan. 1, in perpetuity, dedicated for constructing, improving, maintaining and repairing public roads, highways, bridges and related drainage facilities in the district.

  • Rapides Police Jury Road District, No. 6A: continuation of 30.16 mills for 10 years.

  • Rapides Fire Protection District, Number 6: renewal of 20.02 mills for 10 years.

  • Rapides Fire Protection District, Number 8: renewal of 44.28 mills for 10 years.

  • Forest Hill School District, No. 16: renewal of 7.07 mills for 10 years.

  • Glenmora School District, No. 27: continuation of 12.86 mills for 10 years.

  • Big Island School District, No. 50: $14 million bond for 20 years to finance capital expenditures including constructing, acquiring and/or improving schools and related facilities.

  • Fifth Ward School District, No. 51: renewal of 6.97 mills for 10 years.

  • Lecompte-Lamourie-Woodworth School District, No. 57: $10 million bond for 20 years to finance capital expenditures including constructing, acquiring and/or improving schools or related facilities.

  • Kolin-Ruby Wise Waterworks District, No. 11: 4.53-mills renewal for 10 years.
