Early voting is underway. Here's where you can cast a ballot in Central Indiana.

Hoosiers who are registered to vote can begin casting ballots Wednesday for the 2023 municipal elections across the state.

Before you head to the polls, make sure you have a valid ID and are aware of days and times for early voting locations in your county.

You can find who is on your ballot and detailed information about the candidates by visiting The Indiana Citizen, a nonpartisan news organization. Access their website at indianacitizen.org.

Here’s what you need to know about early voting ahead of Election Day.

How do I vote early in person?

If you are already registered to vote and have a valid photo ID, you can vote early starting Wednesday.

Examples of a valid photo ID include an Indiana driver’s license and a passport. Valid photo IDs for voting include your name, a photo of yourself, an expiration date and are issued by the state of Indiana or the federal government, according to the Indiana Secretary of State’s office.

In-person early voting times and locations will depend on what county you live in. Check with your local county clerk’s office for more information.

How do I vote by mail?

Hoosiers who wish to vote absentee and mail in their ballots must fill out an application and meet certain guidelines.

As of July 1, absentee mail ballot applications must include a voter’s identification numbers or a photocopy of a valid ID for voting. You can download an application here or call your local elections office to receive one by mail.

Voters can request an vote-by-mail ballot if they meet certain requirements, such as if they have a disability or are age 65 or older, according to the Secretary of State’s Office. A full list of approved reasons for voting by mail can be found on the Secretary of State’s website.

Your county elections office must possess absentee mail ballots by 6 p.m. on Election Day at the latest, according to the Secretary of State’s Office.
