Early voting for Va. presidential primary starts Friday

HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) — Early voting for Virginia’s March 5 presidential primary begins Friday.

The last day for early voting is March 2, and the last day to register to vote in the primary is Feb. 12 — at 5 p.m. if registering in person or by 11:59 p.m. if registering online.

The last day to submit an application for a ballot by mail is by 5 p.m. Feb. 23 if doing so online, by fax or by mail, or by 5 p.m. March 2 if applying for absentee ballot in person.

Early voting for Presidential primaries starts Friday in Virginia Beach

All general register offices offer early voting, and some localities may offer early voting in additional locations.

Check the Virginia Department of Elections’ website for dates and times for your locality.

Virginia Beach

In Virginia Beach, early voting starts at 8 a.m. Friday at the Voter Registration and Elections Office at 2449 Princess Anne Road, Municipal Center Building 14.

Here are other early voting locations, dates and times in Virginia Beach, per the Virginia Department of Elections:

  • Bayside Recreation Center – 4500 First Court Road, Virginia Beach, Feb. 24-March 2: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Closed Feb. 25)

  • Great Neck Recreation Center – 2521 Shorehaven Drive, Virginia Beach, Feb. 24-March 2: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Closed Feb. 25)

  • Seatack Recreation Center – 141 S. Birdneck Road, Virginia Beach, Feb. 24-March 2: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Closed Feb. 25)

Chesapeake

Early in-person voting for the March 5 presidential primary election will take place at the Voter Registrar’s Office, 411 Cedar Rd, from Jan. 19 – March 2 on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Early voting at the Registrar’s Office will also be available on Sat, Feb. 24 and March 2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be no early voting on Monday, Feb. 19 because the Registrar’s Office will be closed for President’s Day. Any registered voter can vote early in person without needing to apply to do so.

Any registered voter can apply to vote by mail. You no longer need a witness signature on a mailed absentee ballot but voters will need to provide their year of birth and last four digits of their social security number.

If returning your completed ballot by mail, it must be postmarked by March 5 and received by the Chesapeake Voter Registrar’s Office by noon on March 8. If returning your completed ballot in person, you can drop it off to the Voter Registrar’s Office at any time using the secure outdoor drop box or by bringing it inside during office hours. The Chesapeake Voter Registrar’s Office must have your completed absentee ballot by 7 p.m. on Election Day.

Newport News

Newport News is offering the following early voting opportunities:

  • City Center Fountain Plaza II – 700 Town Center Drive, Newport News, Tuesday and Thursday (Jan. 23 through Feb. 15): 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday (Beginning Feb. 19): 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Feb. 24: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., March 2: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • City Hall — 2400 Washington Ave., 6th Floor, Newport News, Monday through Friday beginning Jan. 19 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 24: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., March 2: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Hampton

Early in-person voting will begin Friday at the Voter Registration Office at 101 Kings Way.

Early voting for the March 5 presidential primary will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday from Jan. 19 through March 2.

Weekend voting opportunities will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on two Saturdays, Feb. 24 and March 2.

Norfolk

In Norfolk, here are the early voting locations, times and dates:

  • Berkley Recreation Center – 121 W. Liberty Street, Norfolk, Feb. 24: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Feb. 25: Noon to 4 p.m., Feb. 26-March 1: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., March 2: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Jordan-Newby Anchor Branch Library – 1425 Norchester Ave., Norfolk, Feb. 24: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Feb. 25: Noon to 4 p.m., Feb. 26-March 1: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., March 2: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Lambert’s Point Community Center – 1251 W. 42nd Street, Norfolk, Feb. 24: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Feb. 25: Noon to 4 p.m., Feb. 26-March 1: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., March 2: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
