Early weather reports for Groundhog Day include possible wintry mix. How cold will it get?

Punxsutawney Phil may be the celebrity meteorologist on Feb. 2, but we have your early weather report for Groundhog Day.

In Erie on Friday, the National Weather Service is calling for a chance of rain and snow showers before 8 a.m. The day will be mostly cloudy with a high near 35 degrees. There is also a 40% chance of precipitation.

Friday night in Erie is looking partly cloudy with a low temperature of 24 degrees.

Forecast in Punxsutawney

Over in Punxsutawney, if you want to make the trip to Gobbler’s Knob to join the celebration, the National Weather Service is calling for an early prediction of a chance of rain showers Friday before 11 a.m.

After 11 a.m. there is a chance of rain and snow showers until noon. Following the noon hour, snow and rain will change back to just rain.

The day will be mostly cloudy with a high near 42 degrees. There is also a reported 30% chance of precipitation.

Transitioning into the night, Punxsutawney is looking at a chance of snow showers before 8 p.m. where the night will also be partly cloudy with a low temperature of 24 degrees. The night will also have a 30% chance of precipitation.
