Apr. 21—St. John's College is celebrating the planet with several events on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22, beginning with the unveiling of the school's new solar array and concluding with a concert by EcoSono Ensemble.

The school's new grid-tiered solar array, which will allow SJC to operate 100 percent from solar energy, will be unveiled at noon by college president Mark Roosevelt. Then be sure to check out the demonstration at 1:30 p.m. of the modern world's only functional Brahian-type armillary sphere, a device invented to measure distances in space by 16th century Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe. Eco-philosopher Sophie Strand, author of The Flowering Wand: Rewilding the Sacred Masculine, will present a lecture at 3 p.m. A performance by EcoSono Ensemble, playing music from the upcoming album Soundscapes of Restoration, will cap the day at 6 p.m. at the Pritzker Student Center's Great Hall.
