'The Glass Menagerie'

Brunswick Little Theatre will perform "The Glass Menagerie" by Tennessee Williams, which have captured the heart and imagination of American theatergoers since its 1945 Broadway opening.

Drawing strongly from the author’s life, "The Glass Menagerie" is set in 1937 St. Louis.  Amanda Wingfield is abandoned by her husband with two young children, Tom and Laura, now in their 20s, all living in a tenement apartment  She escapes this reality by frequently reliving her youth as a southern belle besieged with gentlemen callers.

"The Glass Menagerie" will be show at 7:30 p.m. April 20-22, 27, 29 and matinees at 3 p.m. April 23, 29-30 at 8068 River Road, SE, Southport.

Enjoy free classic movies presented by the town of Leland Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources.

The movie "North by Northwest" will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 19 at the Leland Cultural Arts Center, 1212 Magnolia Village Way, Leland.

Brunswick Community College will hold a job fair in partnerships with NC Works, 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20 at Brunswick Community College, 50 College Road, NE, Bolivia.

The Museum of Coastal Carolina, a natural history museum, will celebrate Earth Day, with the unique environments along the Carolina Coast, and participants can also take part in fun, interactive activities throughout the museum.

Earth Day is an annual celebration that honors the achievements of the environmental movement and raises awareness of the need to protect natural resources for future generations.

The event will be held 10 a.m.-4 p.m. April 22 at the museum, 21 E. Second St., Ocean Isle Beach.

The town of Leland Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources will host a free plant giveaway for its residents beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 22 at the Leland Cultural Arts Center, 1212 Magnolia Village Way, Leland.

Join the Museum of Coastal Carolina, Ingram Planetarium, and the town of Ocean Isle Beach to celebrate Earth Day and learn how to keep the sea and stars safe from light pollution.

The family-friendly program will be held 6-7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 22 at the Town Center Park, 11 E. Second St., Ocean Isle Beach.

Program schedule:

6 p.m. Sea Turtles and Light Pollution. What is light pollution and how does it affect sea turtles? There will be some fun activities to learn about sea turtles and how to keep them safe by turning lights off on the beach.

6:30 p.m. Stargazing and Light Pollution. How can I see the stars? Learn about how light pollution affects star gazing and what we can do to see more stars. Then practice by looking through a real telescope to see what’s up in the night sky.

7 p.m. Enjoy s’mores provided by the town of Ocean Isle Beach. Activity packets with coupons to the museum and planetarium will be provided to all children as well.

Cool and Fancy Gala

Up Your Arts presents its second annual Cool and Fancy Gala, 4-7 p.m. Saturday, April 22 at the Cape Fear Regional Jetport, 4015 Airport Road, S.E., Southport.

The event will feature musical entertainment by Luna Sea, a live and silent auction and hors d’oeuvres and desserts by Middle of the Island Catering Co. Beer and wine also available.

The winners of our “Raise Up Your Arts” pole banner project will be showcased along with their banners. Individual pieces of the banner winners’ artwork will be offered for sale by the auctioneer Ray Wycoff.
