Earthquakes shake Coachella Valley during lunar eclipse

A 3.8-magnitude earthquake could be felt in parts of the Coachella Valley Sunday night. The quake was reported northeast of Desert Hot Springs at 11:16 p.m., according to the United States Geological Survey.

It was followed by several others at smaller magnitudes in the same location at 11:20 p.m. (1.0-magnitude), 11:22 p.m. (1.7) and 11:36 p.m. (2.9), according to the Southern California Earthquake Data Center.

Within 30 minutes, 241 people had reported on the USGS website that they had felt the first quake.

A lunar eclipse was also visible on Sunday.
