Easement for Alabama Power at megasite tops list of Etowah Commission actions

The Etowah County Commission on Tuesday granted a right of way easement to Alabama Power Company at the county’s NEAR Megasite.

The easement will be used to construct power transmission facilities and lines on property located between Interstate 59 and the utility’s new substation at the megasite.

A previous easement had been granted in 2020, but this section was not included.

In other action from the quick meeting, so commissioners could get to the ground breaking for Gadsden State Community College’s new Advanced Manufacturing Training and Skills Center:

• The first reading for the reappointment of Kenny Goss to the West Etowah County Water Authority for a six-year term, which previously had been tabled, was completed.

• RSVP Director Traci Pondick was appointed to the Moutain Lakes Tourist Association’s board for a two-year term.

• Roads in the Cottonwood subdivision in Whorton Bend, in District 6, were accepted into the county’s road system for maintenance.

• Harold Holland was reappointed to the Douglas Water Authority for a six-year term.

• Chief Administrative Officer Shane Ellison was authorized to handle paperwork relating to the Local Government Pistol Permit Revenue Loss Fund. Quarterly payments from that fund, designed to replace money lost by sheriff’s offices when Alabama dropped its requirement to have a permit to carry a concealed weapon, are about to begin.
