EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — The East Brunswick Board of Education will meet Thursday to elect a new board president and set the agenda for the upcoming school year.

At the meeting, the three newly elected members of the board — Mark Carangelo, Laurie Lachs, Susanna Chiu — will be sworn in.

Chiu and Lachs are incumbents, while Carangelo is a newcomer.

School Superintended Victor Valeski will be presenting a detailed school district report. It is expected that Valeski will talk about the district’s reopening plans.

The school district went remote on Nov.16 to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Schools were initially scheduled to return to hybrid instruction on Jan. 11. However, in December, Valeski said he was delaying the reopening by a week, moving the date to Jan. 19 instead.

Valeski had said students can return “if it is safe to do so as we approach that date.”

The meeting is open to the public, and can be watched here.
