East Brunswick Democrats nominate three for vacant township council seat

EAST BRUNSWICK – Three candidates have been named to fill the unexpired township council seat vacated by Michael Spadafino who resigned Jan. 10.

The East Brunswick Democratic Organization has nominated Verne Whitlock Jr., Dana Winston and Dana Zimbicki to fill the post.

“I know and understand that the council will have a very difficult decision weighing the qualifications and experience of each of these candidates and selecting our next township council person," local Democratic Chairman David Loski said at Monday’s township council meeting. "I just want to wish everyone good luck in that process."

The council is expected to vote on Spadafino's replacement at its next meeting scheduled for Feb. 14.

Spadafino, a Democrat who joined the council in 2014, previously said his decision to resign "is very difficult for me, but it's very personal."

The remainder of Spadafino’s term will be contested in November’s election.
