East District Basketball: Colts' Norman, JG's Oliver highlight area honorees

Meadowbrook junior Kenli Norman and John Glenn sophomore Mya Oliver highlight a young group of area players on the court.

They were among the selections, as the East District basketball teams were announced over the weekend.

The teams were selected by the media within the district.

Oliver was one of the top players in Division II, making first team, while senior teammate, McKinzi Linscott, was voted to second team for the Muskies.

Oliver scored 15.6 points per game to go with 3.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 3.0 steals, while Linscott contributed a double-double of 10.6 points and 10.0 rebounds. She also shot 53% from the field with 2.6 steals.

Cambridge sophomore Emma Krise earned third-team mention in the division. She led the Bobcats with 12 points and 5.3 rebounds.

West Holmes' Lindsy Snyder and Emma McMillen were the Coach and Player of the Year, respectively, in Division II.

Norman was a first-team selection in Division III, averaging 14.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.0 steals for the Colts.

Meadowbrook junior Karly Launder and Buckeye Trail senior Josie Creighton were voted to second team. Launder contributed 10.2 points, 9 rebounds, 3.6 steals and 3.1 assists, while Creighton contributed 11.3 points and 7.9 rebounds.

Buckeye Trail senior Kaydence Starr was selected to third team after tallying 12.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.1 blocks per game.

Meadowbrook senior Maddie May and Buckeye Trail senior Emma Smith were special mention choices. May averaged 8.0 points and 3.7 steals and Smith chipped in 8.9 points and 8.4 rebounds.

Meadowbrook's Kaylynn Gombeda were among the honorable mention picks in the division.

Union Local's Reagan Vinskovich was tabbed Player of the Year and Union Local's Scooter Tolzda and West Muskingum's Josh Middleton shared Coach of the Year accolades.

The Division II boys was highly competitive with John Glenn senior Nathan Walker being named to second team. He led the Muskies with 16.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.2 steals.

Cambridge senior Davion Bahr was named to third team with 12.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.7 assists, while Meadowbrook senior Dayne Singleton, who averaged 10 points and 5 rebounds, and Cambridge sophomore Jesiah Barnett, who had 11.2 points, were special mention.

John Glenn's Bexlee Woodard, Cambridge's Caden Moore and Devin Ogle and Meadowbrook's Colton Delancey were honorable mention.

Maysville's Hayden Jarrett and New Philadelphia's Carter Vandall shared Player of the Year accolades, while Maysville's Dave Brown and Carrollton's Mike Aukerman was Co-Coaches of the Year.

In Division III boys, Buckeye Trail senior Garrett Burga averaged 16.0 points and 7.5 rebounds in receiving second-team mention, while senior teammate, Isaac Beaver, who contributed 11.0 points and made 81% of his free throws, was a special mention pick.

The Warriors' Charlie Parry was among the honorable mention choices in the division.

Malvern's J'Allen Barrino and Martins Ferry's Denali Jackson were Co-Players of the Year and West Muskingum's Jeff Rinkes and Sandy Valley's Gary Offenberger shared coach of the year honors.
